Save the Hormuz is a free, browser-based puzzle game β a satirical geopolitical twist on the classic Minesweeper format. Instead of a plain rectangular grid, your playing field is the real geography of the Save the Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically vital waterways.
Your mission: clear all naval mines from the strait before an oil tanker runs out of time to deliver its cargo to global markets. Fail, and the economy collapses. Succeed, and the world keeps turning.
The Save the Hormuz is a narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. At its narrowest, it is only about 39 kilometres wide β yet through this chokepoint flows approximately 20% of the global oil supply, making it one of the most economically critical passages on Earth.
The strait is bordered by Iran to the north and Oman and the United Arab Emirates to the south. Its strategic significance has made it a focal point of geopolitical tension for decades, with its security directly affecting global energy prices, shipping routes, and international relations.
This game uses the real shape of the strait as its playing field β tiles follow the actual coastline, making each game a unique geographical puzzle.
